Day 5: Addiction and Possession ~ Break the Cycle

I want to go straight to the point and ask this loaded question. How do we get hooked? After we answer this question the next one is, ‘How do we get free?’

I personally believe we get hooked because of worthless worship. I also believe we can get free by understanding that worship is a lifestyle. It’s not a temporary fix. Worship is something we should do from the moment we wake in the morning until the time we go to sleep. When I say, “Worship” I am speaking of worshiping the living God of our salvation.

My husband, Kevin says that both addiction and possession are unfortunate consequences of “worthless worship.” Worthless worship is when we focus our lives towards creation or creatures instead of the Creator. (Romans 1:18-24)

As I think about his words I consider our distorted self-perception, continuing self-deception and perpetuated false-gratification. Addiction and possession have room to take root. Addiction and possession may also be connected with family dysfunction and the wounds and damage inflicted to the emotional, psychological, physical or spiritual well-being of family or friends in the past.

So much to unpack here. Read back through the last few blog posts (days 1 – 4) and journal your thoughts, and identify the triggers with the goal of getting to the root of it. Listen, you do not have to do this alone. I am here to help. Click here to book a session with me or several sessions so that we can journey through this together. http://gaildudley.com/wounded.html

Distorted self-perception = when you see yourself unlike God sees you.

Self-deception = lying to yourself…false gratification, temporary need.

So much more to share. Come back tomorrow for day 6.

Isn’t it time to break free?
